May 14 Route 66 trip

May 14
We left Sapulpa, OK at 9:15.
Our first stop was to see the giant penguin at the Crown Chrysler dealership in Bristow. When we pulled into the parking lot 2 guys came our & offered us to come in for coffee. The wanted us to parking beside each other in front of the door then they called the local newspaper to have a reporter come out & take our pictures. Why??? I don’t know. But while we were there Mindy noticed a screw in one of their tires.
So “Allan got screwed on Route 66 by a giant Penguin at the Chrysler dealership.”
At Stroud we stopped by the Rock Café which burned down in May 2008. David was one of the worker trying to get it put back together. He was very nice & showed us around & said they planned to be cooking by May 22.
Then we went to Chandler where we met up with Jerry McClanahan, who wrote the book “EZ 66 Guide” we are following on our trip. What a great guy. He was very friendly & knowledgeable. He invited us to his house where his studio is but his driveway wasn’t very accommodating . He took pictures with us & our traveling mascots.
Then we were off again & came upon John Hargrove’s Oklahoma County 66 Auto trim & Mini Museum.
What an amazing place… He has quite a collection of sculpture & art that he makes. He even has a soda fountain & theater.
We had lunch at Pops. They have 500 different kinds of soda. Good food & also gas. Food, Fizz & Fuel.

We saw the round barn. Mr. Sam is there to great you & tell you all about anything you might want to know.
We wrapped up the day at the Oklahoma City National Memorial – A.P. Murrah building. We only had an hour to do the museum part, but it was enough to experience a lot of emotions.
Then we walked around the chairs & the part of the building they left standing.

We ended the day at the West side of OK City.
We met a fellow PT’er Frank from the area. He had a very nice PT. He call it the Sooner Cruiser.
