May 12 Route 66 trip

May 12, 2009
Today we drove a lot again, about 150 miles.
We went through Waynesville, saw the giant frog painted on a boulder, 1923 Rubidoux Creek bridge & a plant shop in a renovated gas station.
We saw a giant bowling pin towards Buckhorn.
In Lebanon we saw a 50's style diner & Route 66 museum at the library. We saw a sign there that showed 1676 miles to Santa Monica. So we still have lots to see & miles to go.
At the Worlds largest gift store in Phillpsburg we saw Lucille Balls 1940 Cadillac & bought stuff.
Went through Marshfield where there is a 1/4 scale model of the Hubble telescope.
In Carthage we saw a great old giant courthouse building built in 1894.
In Carterville we saw the giant praying hands.
They had a huge storm a few days ago with winds up to 90 mph. There is lots of broken trees, & roof shingles missing.
There are great old houses & buildings to see.
We landed in Joplin for the night & got the chance to do some laundry & catch up a little.
We are still doing long days & not getting to sleep until at least 11:00 & up early to get on the road usually by 9.
